About Us
Who are We?
Prep for Prep’s Entrepreneurship 2.0 program first brought together the 8 highschool freshmen that founded our brand, The Paper Crane Experiment. The name first came about during a lunch period at that program, where the students learned what it meant for something to have value. What started off as an auctioning became a system where they effectively sold and bought a paper crane, in which the crane increased in worth after each purchase.
Within the span of a day, what was a fun game quickly became an elaborate business.
Within four days, the team of students earned $600 in investments, purchased custom shirts, created art by featured artists, and created a website in addition to an Instagram account to document the journey. As a whole, the business also makes art for an art gallery and uniforms for our team, angel investors, and connectors.
Throughout our adventure so far, we’ve learned it’s the little things that make a big difference. Once, we made a business on our way back from a trip. We took taffy candies and jelly beans and offered them to people walking past. From this experience, we took note of the patterns people assumed when we tried selling to them.
Similarly, in every part of our experience, we learned to believe, and to persevere. The paper concept in our paper crane represents a clean slate, a fresh beginning. We all need it.
